About me
born in Waidhofen/Ybbs (Austria).
Pupil of Rainer Küchl and Jela Spitkova at the University of Music in Vienna.
Further studies with Wolfgang Scheiderhan, Robert Masters and Josef Luitz.
Finalist and prizewinner at the International Yehudi Menuhin Competition 1991England.
Solo and chamber music concerts in various European countries, South America and Japan.
From 1999-2008 she was primaria of the Munich String Quartet, which she founded together with members of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.
In 2008 she founded the Seraphin Quartet Vienna with members of the Vienna Philharmonic and Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
Regular chamber music collaborations with pianist Malcolm Martineau and soprano Miah Persson.
Birgit Kolar was, among others, concertmaster of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra from 1994-96.
As a guest concertmaster Birgit Kolar plays in orchestras such as the Bavarian State Orchestra (Munich State Opera), the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orquestra del Gran Teatro del Liceu Barcelona, etc.
From 2003-2009 she was a lecturer at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna for violin concerto and in 2011 she will hold a guest professorship at the University of Arts in Graz.
Birgit Kolar plays on a violin Carlo Bergonzi, Cremona 1723 from the collection of the Austrian National Bank.
